Motorway Lighting Changes
Motorway Lighting is to be switched off permanently on the section of the M1 between J10 (Luton) to J13 (Milton Keynes) progressively from mid August 2011. The change is to aimed at reducing carbon emissions (and saving costs) and will still leave the junctions themselves and their slip roads lit.
The Highways Authority say that this should not compromise safety and that lights would not have been installed under the revised lighting standards introduced in 2007.
The HA already turns lighting off between midnight and 5am on sections of the M1 (J16), M", M4, M5, M6 and M54 - comprising 47 miles
